Worshiping in your walk

by Emily Wooten
Giving place to God’s word isn’t as simple as it sounds. We know we can worship God in church during the praise and worship service. Some might worship God when they pray or in daily devotions. How about when we are driving on the freeway and another driver cuts us off? Does that sound like an opportunity to worship?
We see in the scriptures that every day is a good day to worship: not just Sunday or Wednesday evening.
Perhaps we haven’t considered how we can worship God in traffic but that is an attitude God enjoys.
Acts 16:25-26 At midnight Paul and Silas we in chains, enclosed in the prison. They prayed and sang praises to God: and the prisoners heard them.
As a result, the jail shook and their chains fell off. The first thing they did was share the gospel with the jailer. He and his entire family came to know Jesus as Lord.
Maybe you never considered that you could be the person who would reach someone with the good news. The teller at the bank, the young person in the drive-thru, and the mechanic at your repair shop are available if we utilize their services. There are lots of ways to start a conversation that praises God for all he has done in our lives.
Have we considered the opportunity to worship God while we are preparing supper? Paying the bills is another time when we can praise God for providing and worship him that we have the ability to manage our affairs.
A basic attitude of thanksgiving is an important part of being a Christian.
Colossians 3:23-24 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Do all to the glory of God. It gives us a new perspective. We can give God glory walking across the street, changing the baby’s diaper and washing the car. Let’s look for ways to bring God glory.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Presenting our bodies as a sacrifice is worship. When we choose to give God glory when our feelings would suggest a different emotion, we are subduing our flesh while honoring God, which is well pleasing to him. Every choice we make can effect those around us. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our witness always caused others to be encouraged, edified and built up.
