Growing Up Spiritually-Part 4

The Fruit of A Born Again Spirit By Emily Wooten
Galatians 5:22-23 …The Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance…
What do we mean when we talk about fruit? One might say that fruit refers to the product of a newborn spirit. We can be ruled by these forces of a newborn spirit.
Romans 5:5 … because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
God’s love, for God is love, produces forces that help us manage our behavior. Jesus walked in love with patience.
1 John 2: 5 But who keeps his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Jesus managed his behavior as a human in this earth. We can too. (The word perfected in 1John 2:5 means to make complete, to accomplish, brought to its end.)
Ephesians 4: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
The work perfect here also means to be brought to its end, finished, wanting nothing, mature. We see that we are working toward and end. That end will produce in us peace.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing (Don’t be anxious); but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
We are instructed to keep ourselves from being anxious. The same way love is in our spirit, so is all the fruit of a newborn spirit there. We must use these forces of love to overcome every undisciplined thought. Before we produce fruit that is inappropriate: hate, anger, boasting, impatience, we have thoughts that suggest we should behave that way. That is the place where the fruit of the spirit is produced or the works of flesh. We choose.
Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
If we see a brother or sister who has allowed themselves to be overtaken by ungodly behavior, this is a good time to speak the truth in love. Paul would not have suggested that we can have a spirit of meekness if it were not possible. We can choose to operate in humility, walking in love with patience. The Holy Spirit can give us the right words to say to love and help someone. If we choose works of the flesh we might be accusative, abrupt and without compassion. Notice the scripture says to consider yourself so you aren’t tempted. Walking in love produces faith and patience.
James 1:3-5 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and does not criticize; and it shall be given him.
Confession: I operate in love, joy and peace and God calls me perfect, entire, and wanting nothing.

Tell it!

by Emily Wooten
Today around 166,859 humans will face eternity some with and others without God. The message of salvation through Jesus Christ is simple.
Perhaps you have already accepted Jesus’ offer. We know that if we accept Jesus, we are children of God. Romans 8:14-17 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons (and daughters) of God. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…
So you are a child of God and an heir with Jesus Christ. What are you doing with the power and position you’ve accepted? Perhaps you haven’t thought about the relationship you have with the Almighty, Self Existing Creator since you asked Jesus to forgive your sins. You should. Included in the covenant through which we receive salvation and eternal life is help.
If God has called us to it he will enable us to do it. He told his followers in: Mark 16:15 Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Matthew 28:19 Go teach and baptize. Luke 24:47 …repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations… John 15:16 …I have chosen you, and ordained you, you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
The fruit to which Jesus refereed is those we have led into the kingdom. In the NIV it reads he has appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit…
And the gospel must first be published among all nations. Mark 13:10
Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Today is a good day to ask God our Father to fill us with boldness and grace to tell others. We should all expect God to do great things as we share his love with others.
James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction…
There is nothing more important than telling people what we have experienced, what we’ve learned and how good God is.

God is Bigger!

by Emily Wooten

For all the situations life presents God is El Shaddai. The word El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty) is first seen in Genesis 17:1 and is used 48 times in scripture.

God announced to Abram that he, God, was almighty or All-Powerful.
Romans 8: 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

If the all-powerful, almighty creator is for us there is no force or circumstance that can prevail. What are the qualifications for tapping into the resources of an almighty, self-existing deity?

1. Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

We have to first understand that we didn’t get good enough to be saved and it wasn’t because of works that we were welcomed into the family or kingdom of God. We shouldn’t get the idea that we can work our way into access.

2. Ephesians 2: 8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Christ died for us, taking our place. Now with God’s help, we can live in the benefits Jesus provided. That includes health, provision, boldness and deliverance. All the blessings offered under a covenant with God Almighty is already included.

Galatians 3:13-14 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

If the blessings of Abraham are ours through faith, we need to find out what those blessings are before we can lay claim to them. Deuteronomy 28: 1-14 explains the blessings or covenant rights of a born-again Christian. God tells us clearly what he expects and what he is willing to do for us.

3. Deuteronomy 28: 1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:

He is just getting started. Pray in the spirit daily and listen for God to reveal himself to you through his word.
