Refresh

by Emily Wooten

While studying on the word refresh, I ran across this definition: an act or function of updating the display on a screen. Websters also defines refresh as revise or update, to restore strength, revive or rejuvenate.
We may need to refresh our view and update our operating system.
Isaiah 2 :11-12 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Strong’s says that word refreshing means to rest or a place to rest but it was taken from a root word that means to stir up, act in an instant. Let’s not be numbered among the ones who would not hear sound doctrine! God offers to his children, refreshing.
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 6:1-2 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
Now! Today! Why wait?
Humans need to know that there is a time where salvation is offered and rejecting or ignoring God’s call could result in eternal dis rest and torture. Let’s not candy coat the message of salvation.
Matthew 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Romans 6:22-23 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
There is rest and times of refreshing available. God encourages us to take part!
Humans can get tired to the bone. We can be worn down and exhausted sometimes by struggling at our own hand. We should take this opportunity to take stock and examine our lives.
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…
Paul had just finished explaining how men and women of faith held out for God’s best.
Hebrews 11:33-35 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions. Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
God offers to us the sustaining power of rest and refreshing. Let’s be among the ones who say with all our being, Yes! I choose to enter into your rest and do more than I have ever done before! By your grace and favor I receive to myself times of refreshing. Replenish my strength and renew my knowledge of your will. Teach me to rest in your strength and perceive your plan in and through me. Father, get glory to yourself, in Jesus name.
