Peace Be Still

by Emily Wooten
Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul waits upon God: from him comes my salvation.
Isaiah 40:28-31 Have you not known? Have you not heard that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
These words encourage us to remember, God is our strength and our refuge. In a world filled with chaos and confusion, there remains a stable force of peace and comfort.
Hebrews 4:9-11 There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Eagles are masters of soaring. They spread their wide wings and ride air currents, especially rising warm air called thermals. Without flapping their wings, lift from the air keeps them up — like surfing the sky. Lift is the invisible force that pushes up against gravity.
God is that force that causes the Christian to, despite circumstances, keep their faith and rise above the problem to succeed.
Just like an eagle soars high above the earth, Christians are called to rise above life’s struggles, pain, and challenges. The force you can’t always see — but is always there: is God. Sometimes, the wind is rough, the skies are dark, and storms roll in. But those same conditions can create a stronger lift — and the eagle uses them to rise even higher.
Some may think that waiting is doing nothing. On the contrary, wait is a verb. In the original Hebrew, the word translated as “wait” is qavah, which carries several layers of meaning:
To Hope or Expect: It means hoping in God with confident expectation — like waiting for the sunrise after a dark night, knowing it will come. It is to trust in or depend on.
When a hurricane of circumstances threatens your peace, remember how Jesus spoke to the winds and waves.
Mark 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Jesus said in John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Do not let your heart be troubled, don’t let it be afraid.
