Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abides for ever.
Conformed vs transformed
To conform means you, by a choice of your will, change your way of doing, saying, or seeing so that you modify your behavior to emulate a way other than that which you have known. Thayer says it is to conform one’s self (ie. one’s mind and character) to another’s pattern.
Transformed, also according to Thayer, is to change into another form, to transfigure.
Scripture says we are transformed by the renewing of our mind.
It is clear that no one remains the same. We are affected by our surroundings, circumstances and Ephesians 6:12 states: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Every human has been affected by spiritual wickedness in high places.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us how to defeat the attack of the enemy and prevail, being transformed. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
If we believe the Holy Spirit anointed Paul to write these instructions we can take God’s word for face value and believe he has given us the key to overcoming every temptation.
Isaiah 55:11 says So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
How do we resist being conformed and rather be transformed by the renewing of our mind. By taking every word that God has so graciously given us and using it like the weapon it is. We should give the word of God equal time: saying it, confessing it and considering it.
Here are more instructions from Almighty God.
Proverbs 4:20-23 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
How much of our time are we willing to dedicate to being transformed this week?
Let the Holy Spirit lead you in where to start.
